The Edmonton Dragon Boat Festival was set to run on the North Saskatchewan River this weekend, but heavy rainfall and unseasonable weather forced organizers to move the whole event, 500m races, food trucks, live music and all, to Telford Lake in Leduc, Saturday and Sunday, 9 AM to 4 PM. It shares the weekend with the Make-A-Wish Grand Slam Slo-Pitch Tournament at William F Lede Park, Century Mile's Fired Up Friday 80s glow party, Beaumont's Cultural Day at Four Seasons Park on Sunday, and the final Downtown Market Series bash of the season in Devon on Saturday. In city and town news this week, Beaumont welcomed a new nurse practitioner to Beaumont Family Medical Associates through the City's primary care grant program, its second placement since the grant launched in 2025.
One thing worth knowing before you head out: Black Gold Drive's lane closures are still active through Leduc, and the blue-green algae advisory at Pigeon Lake remains in effect.

With more homeowners tackling outdoor projects this time of year, Devon RCMP is reminding people that sheds, garages and yard equipment left unsecured are easy targets. Power tools, trailers, ATVs, lawn tractors and even vehicle parts top the list, and RCMP's practical suggestions include upgrading shed and garage locks to deadbolts, adding motion-activated lighting, photographing and recording serial numbers on high-value gear, and simply not leaving keys in ATVs or mowers, even inside a locked garage.
