TL;DR
Slo-pitch nationals roll into Leduc's William F Lede Park July 31 to August 3, with the Wild Rose figure skating invitational running the same weekend at the rec centre. Devon's free Summer Shack keeps popping up at a different park most weeks through August 25, and the town pool is open again. Beaumont wraps the month with a free newcomer welcome night on July 30 and Heritage Day on August 3, then brings the Edmonton Symphony outdoors to Four Seasons Park on August 23. Big news: Amazon has opened a wildfire disaster relief hub in Nisku, and ground has broken on Calmar Crossing, the largest commercial build in that town's history. Farmers markets keep running in both Leduc and Beaumont.

Amazon Opens Disaster Relief Hub in Nisku
Amazon has opened a wildfire-focused disaster relief centre in Nisku, stocking specialized equipment for donation to Canadian non-profits like the Canadian Red Cross and Team Rubicon Canada. It is operational now, with a grand opening planned for October once it reaches full capacity of more than 180,000 emergency supplies. It is only the second wildfire-dedicated facility Amazon has built anywhere.
Work to Begin on Largest Commercial Build in Calmar's History
Ground has broken on Calmar Crossing, a 33,000 sq ft commercial plaza on 50 Avenue anchored by Shell and a global fast-food chain. It is four times the size of the town's previous largest development, is expected to create roughly 100 jobs, and a later phase should bring a grocery store, medical services and a pharmacy.
📍 Beaumont
Commercial Construction Starting on Coloniale Way
Construction is set to begin on the vacant lot at the southeast corner of 50 Street and Coloniale Way, making room for new businesses and services in Beaumont. Residents nearby can expect the usual construction activity as the site gets going.
Council Strategic Plan Sets Priorities Through 2030
Beaumont's 2026 to 2030 Council Strategic Plan, approved in June, is built around three commitments: resident-centred services, community safety and well-being, and growth that makes sense for Beaumont. It is the roadmap guiding city decisions for the next four years.
