🏈 Elks: First Place Is on the Line Tonight
The Elks (12-4) host Winnipeg tonight at 7:30 p.m. in their last regular-season game at Commonwealth Stadium. A win clinches first place in the West. First place means a bye and a home West Final on Saturday, Nov 7.
If they lose tonight, they get another shot at first on Oct 24 in Saskatchewan. If they finish second, they host the West Semi-Final on Halloween, Oct 31. Either way, there's a home playoff game coming, the first since 2015.
🏈 Leduc Takes the Rivalry
It lived up to the hype. Under the lights at the Beaumont Multi-Use Turf Field on Thursday night, Leduc Composite beat the Beaumont Bandits 27-22, handing Beaumont its first loss of the season.
Both teams finish the regular season at 4-1. Leduc's only loss came against McNally two weeks ago, and they answered with two straight wins by a combined 76-35. Beaumont won its first four, then fell in the one that mattered most to the locals.
What's next: the Metro Athletics playoffs start next week, with the first games Oct 21 to 23 and the finals Nov 4 to 7 at Johnny Bright Sports Park. The league hasn't posted seeds yet. We'll have both teams' matchups on Monday. Metro Athletics

Work starts on a new cargo facility at YEG
Edmonton International Airport and Terracap Management broke ground Thursday on a 50,000 sq ft airside cargo facility with direct access to the apron, so freight can move straight between planes and the warehouse. It's built for time-sensitive cargo like e-commerce, perishables, pharmaceuticals and aircraft parts. It's part of YEG's International Cargo Hub, which launched this year with $118 million in federal funding. Leduc County Mayor Tanni Doblanko said investment like this "help[s] create the conditions for private investment and economic growth." Read more (93.1 The One, Oct 15)
