Thanksgiving is Monday, and this is the last full week for some of fall's best outings. The U of A Botanic Garden closes for the season Sunday, so the long weekend is your last chance to walk it in full colour. Pumpkins After Dark, the corn maze and Prairie Gardens' haunted farm all run through the holiday.
On the field, the Beaumont Bandits are 3-0 after a 20-9 win over Lillian Osborne on Thursday. Leduc dropped a close one to McNally, 19-13, which takes the "battle of the unbeatens" off the Oct 16 rivalry game, but not the stakes.
The BSRC pool reopened Friday, and swimming lessons start today. And on Thanksgiving Monday, Leduc's City offices are closed, but the Leduc Recreation Centre is open 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Help design the new skatepark
Thursday, 6:30 to 8:00 p.m., Leduc Recreation Centre, LPH Room. No registration needed. The City decided in March to replace the nearly 20-year-old skatepark, and earlier feedback favoured a street-style design over a bowl. Thursday's workshop includes a "Skateparks 101" presentation, a look at modern parks elsewhere, and a hands-on design session. If you have a skater at home, bring them: it's their park. Details

The Leduc Recreation Centre is open 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Curbside carts are collected on your usual day. The Week's News
Devon: what happens to the old Esso building?
Devon council weighed three options for the former Imperial Oil building the Town bought in 2018: sell it, keep it and lease it long term, or renovate it into a new town office. The renovation would cost an estimated $7.5 million, and about $700,000 has already gone into maintenance and capital work over the past decade. Devon Community Church also proposed a church and a 60-unit seniors' continuing-care residence on or near the site. Council's support was mixed, and staff will explore the options further, possibly with an open house. Read more (93.1 The One, Sept 30)
Beaumont lands $38.5 million from the province
Alberta is putting $38.5 million into roads, utilities and services at Beaumont's Innovation Park to support a proposed Alberta Motor Transport Association safety campus. It would train police and commercial drivers, with an emergency vehicle driving track, a firearms range and scenario training areas. The AMTA would finance, build and run the campus. Mayor Lisa Vanderkwaak called it "a transformative investment in our community's future." Read more (93.1 The One, Sept 25)
Leduc County: new safety signs on Range Road 233
After serious crashes, including fatalities, the County has put up six new warning signs on Range Road 233 at Township Road 500, Airport Road and Highway 623, in both directions. The County also says 515 tickets were written over six months on Township Road 490 and Range Road 263, mostly to drivers from outside the County. One driver was clocked at 146 km/h in a 90 zone.
