Hope you had a good Thanksgiving. It's a big week to be a sports fan around here!

The Oilers haven't lost in regulation
Five games in, the Oilers are 4-0-1, and they're the only team in the NHL that hasn't lost in regulation. The one blemish was opening night, a 6-5 overtime loss to Vancouver at Rogers Place on Sept 29. Since then they've won four straight: 9-7 in Vancouver, 3-1 at home over Seattle, 5-2 in Anaheim and 3-1 in San Jose.
Connor McDavid leads the team with 13 points (3 goals, 10 assists), and Evan Bouchard is right behind with 12, including 6 goals. That's a lot of offence from a defenceman five games into the season. Leon Draisaitl has 9 points and Vasily Podkolzin has chipped in 5 goals.
The road trip wraps up tonight in Los Angeles. Then they're home Thursday against the Utah Mammoth at 7:00 p.m.

Playoff football is coming back to Commonwealth
The Elks (12-4) beat Hamilton 27-12 on the road Friday and clinched their first home playoff game since 2015. Cody Fajardo ran in a fourth-quarter touchdown, Zach Mathis picked off a Hamilton fake punt and took it back for the deciding score, and Malik Carney had four sacks.
Edmonton leads the West and can't finish lower than second. Where the home game lands depends on the next two weeks:
If the Elks finish first, they get a bye and host the West Final on Saturday, Nov 7. One more win does it.
If they finish second, they host the West Semi-Final on Saturday, Oct 31. That's Halloween football at Commonwealth.
Their next chance to clinch first is Friday at home against Winnipeg, 7:30 p.m., the last regular-season game at Commonwealth. They finish in Saskatchewan on Oct 24. The Grey Cup is Nov 15 in Calgary.
Concerts: one on sale now, one starting today
Nickelback, Saturday April 3, 2027, Rogers Place, 6:30 p.m., with Don Broco. It's the Everything Under The Sun tour, named for the new album out Oct 30. The artist presale opens today at 10:00 a.m., the Canadian Amex presale at 12:00 p.m., and the general on-sale is Friday, Oct 16 at 10:00 a.m. Some Spotify Premium users may also get presale access. → Tickets
Simple Plan, Friday Jan 29, 2027, Rogers Place, 7:00 p.m., with Yellowcard and Bowling for Soup. It's their 25th-anniversary Bigger Than You Think! Canada tour, and tickets went on sale Friday, Oct 9, so don't wait if you want good seats. → Tickets here

High school football: it's Thursday now
Both teams won big on Friday. Beaumont (4-0) beat Ardrossan 31-20 at home, and Leduc Composite (3-1) bounced back from its loss to McNally with a 49-13 win at Fort Saskatchewan.
That sets up the game of the season: Leduc at Beaumont, Thursday Oct 15, 7:30 p.m., Beaumont Multi-Use Turf Field. Beaumont is trying to stay perfect, and Leduc has scored 141 points in its three league wins. Bring a blanket, because it's a night game in mid-October. Metro Athletics schedule
Junior hockey
The Beaumont Chiefs picked up a point Friday in a 5-4 shootout loss to the Edmonton Mustangs. At 5-2-1 they're third in the East with 11 points, behind unbeaten Sherwood Park (7-0) and the Edmonton Royals. They host Strathcona tonight at 7:30 p.m. and St. Albert Friday at 8:00 p.m., both at Ken Nichol Arena.
The Leduc Riggers split the long weekend, winning 3-2 in Spruce Grove Friday and losing 5-0 at home to St. Albert on Sunday. At 2-3-2, they host the unbeaten Sherwood Park Knights Friday at 8:00 p.m. at the LRC, then visit Strathcona Sunday at 3:45 p.m. CJHL standings

The Week's News
Leduc-area partners renew their school threat assessment agreement
Black Gold School Division, the RCMP, FCSS, Recovery Alberta and the mayors of Leduc, Calmar, Devon and Warburg re-signed the region's Violence Threat Risk Assessment (VTRA) protocol in Nisku on Oct 8. VTRA is the process schools, police and agencies use to step in when a young person may be a risk to themselves or others. It was first signed in 2014. The renewal adds two new pieces: a coordinated response after a traumatic event affecting a school or community, and a community suicide prevention response. Read more (93.1 The One, Oct 9)
RCMP investigating messages at Ohpaho Secondary
Leduc RCMP are investigating threatening messages that school officials found inside Ohpaho Secondary School on Oct 6.
