September 30 is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
It is a day to honour the Indigenous children who were sent to residential schools and those who never came home, and to recognise the Survivors, their families and their communities. Survivors have shared accounts of physical, sexual and psychological abuse, and the intergenerational impacts continue to affect communities today.
The orange shirt represents what was taken from those children: their identity, their culture and their freedom. Every Child Matters is a reminder that each child lost must be remembered.
We are on Treaty 6 Territory and within District 11 of the Métis Nation of Alberta.
In Devon: a community walk, 4 to 7 p.m.
Devon is holding the one public gathering in our three towns today.
Journey of Reconciliation, 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., starting at 10 River Drive. The walk begins and ends at Medicine Park.
The Town describes it as a chance to honour the truth, listen deeply to Survivors, and commit to collective action. Their words, worth repeating: come with an open heart, walk with respect, and help build an equitable future together.
Community support workers will be on site offering cultural care, confidential support and traditional medicines. Event details
In Leduc and Beaumont
Leduc. City offices are closed today for the statutory holiday. Regular hours resume tomorrow, Thursday Oct 1, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. One practical note: month-end utility payments and TIPP withdrawals move to Thursday Oct 1. Neither city is running a public gathering of its own this year. If you want to attend something, Devon is closest, and there are two larger events within a reasonable drive.

In Beaumont, your blue bag starts accepting a lot more: glass containers, foam packaging including clean meat trays and takeout containers, flexible plastics like bread bags and chip bags, paper laminates such as disposable coffee cups, and empty aerosol containers. No added cost, same collection schedule, and no more separate trips for glass and foam.
In Devon, residential recycling changes take effect the same day.
Friday Oct 2: the BSRC Aquatic Centre in Beaumont reopens after its maintenance closure, with all amenities and regular hours.
